Terms of Use

These are the terms for using Homing. They are short on purpose.

What Homing is

Homing is a toy. It is a messaging app that is deliberately, absurdly slow: your letter is carried by a virtual bird that takes real hours, sometimes days, to arrive.

It is not a reliable way to send anything urgent, and it is not intended to be. Please do not use it for anything that matters quickly.

Letters can be lost

Birds sometimes do not arrive. Depending on which bird you send, there is a small chance - between roughly 0.4% and 2.5% - that a letter is lost and cannot be recovered. The odds are shown before you send.

This is on purpose. It is what makes an arrival mean something. If you would not accept losing it, do not send it here.

Using it

Homing is free. Use it for your own personal enjoyment.

Do not use it to harass, threaten, deceive or abuse anyone, to send anything unlawful, or to send anything to someone who does not want to hear from you. You can only write to people who accepted your friend request, and either of you can remove that at any time.

Please do not modify the app, take it apart, automate it, or try to read letters that have not arrived yet.

We may remove an account that is used to abuse other people.

What you write

What you write is yours. We do not claim it and we do not use it for anything except delivering it to the person you sent it to.

We do not moderate letters, because we cannot read them. If someone sends you something you should not have received, block them and tell us.

Your account

The account is anonymous and tied to this device. There is no password to recover it with, so losing the device loses the account and everything in it. We cannot restore it, because we have no way to know it was yours.

Money

There is nothing to buy in Homing. No purchases, no subscriptions, no currency.

No warranty

The app is provided as it is. We do our best to make it work, but we cannot promise it is free of bugs, that letters always arrive, or that the service will always be available.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using it, including a letter that does not arrive.

These terms may change. The date at the top shows when they last did.
